FreeRice.com
I love learning. I know that’s a really nerdy thing to say, but it’s true. Freerice.com is a really neat website/fundraiser that provides (you guessed it) free rice to people who need it. They work through the UN, though I’m not quite sure how it works. I realize that when I get an answer right, they claim to donate 20 grains of rice to the fund, but how is that paid for? Obviously I’m not paying for it directly. There are banner ads on the bottom of the pages, but I can’t help but wonder if that really works or not. Do people even click those? Or do the companies pay per impression instead of per-click? Because really, even if you don’t click the ad, you still see it. And what better way to see it than while you’re thinking and learning.
Either way, I think it’s an excellent way to learn and add to your vocabulary. I spent a good couple of hours sifting through the words. I think they do a pretty good job of not repeating words, too. Not only that, but from their FAQs, it looks like they’re continuing to add more words as they go.
